Chief Engineers - B Wattling

Brian J. Wattling - Chief Engineer, Queen Mary 2

BW

Brian Wattling was born in Brighton and educated at the De La Salle College before moving onto Brighton Technical College. After completing his Engineering Diploma, Brian decided to follow in family tradition and pursue a career at sea. He did this by joining the British & Commonwealth Shipping Group. After a period of time on cargo ships, Brian was transferred to the passenger division, the Union Castle Line, where he remained until 1977. He then joined Cunard Line, and was appointed to the Cunard Princess as Junior Engineer. He remained on the ship until he reached the most senior position, that of Chief Engineer.

As Chief Engineer, he went on to serve aboard the Cunard Countess, Crown Dynasty, Sea Goddess 1 and Queen Elizabeth 2. In January 2003, Brian joined the site team at the shipyard of Chantiers de l'Atlantique at Saint Nazaire, France to represent Cunard Line during the construction of the Queen Mary 2. He was the first Chief Engineer of the new ship when she was handed over to Cunard on 22 December 2003.
